WEEK ONE

We've now completed our first week working on the house and we're thrilled with how much we've got done! The week basically consisted of us having our heads in the ceiling, lots of sanding, and Dad & Jamie getting covered in soot!

Me and Dad spent the first day at the house on Wednesday last week. The loft room was very poorly insulated so we've been working on improving that. We've pushed lots of insulation up into the sloped ceilings (via the eves cupboards), and around the side walls where we can. The trickiest part was the ceiling, where we've had to cut 2 holes in order to reach up and fill in with the insulation (for which we of course had the correct, highly fashionable accessories to protect ourselves!)

On Saturday morning me and Jamie headed back to the house (via Homebase to purchase a plant to replace the Christmas tree by the front door!) to carry on with the insulation. We got all of the side walls finished but couldn't quite finish the ceiling (we're still novices at this and needed some help from Dad!) So we spent the afternoon rubbing down all the woodwork. The skirting boards, cupboard doors and window frame are currently a dark stained pine and we want to paint them white to brighten the room up.

We finished the day off with a cider in the lovely pub up the road, and spent the night on an air bed ready to carry on the next morning!

Sunday morning Dad arrived nice and early and we all got straight to work. We finished off all of the insulation up in the loft so thats one job ticked off the list! Then I stayed up there to carry on with the rubbing down of the woodwork and filling in a few screws holes etc. whilst Dad & Jamie started the oh so messy task of pulling down an old lath and plaster ceiling! By the time I came down from the loft room they were booth covered in dust and soot and the house was filthy!

We're so pleased to have finally made a start and can't wait to carry on again this week! Now that we're starting to see some progress it all feels a lot more achievable (although all that insulation took a big chunk out of the budget!)

This week we're making a start on adding in some electrical sockets, undercoating all that woodwork, and lining the walls in the loft ready for some emulsion!
